David Brain appointed by Avyse Partners

I’m delighted to be joining my good friends Richard and Oliver at Avyse. The ethos of the company – the focus on purpose - completely aligns to my views on the direction financial services firms should be taking with their compliance strategy.

In relation to their controls, if firms struggle to answer the question “why do we do what we do?” then it’s time for change. It’s time to be courageous and leave behind ineffective controls that do nothing to address real risk – even if some peers persist with them.

Recent FCA speeches appear to be on exactly the same page, so there’s never been a better time to implement a real risk-based approach. The key question is how do we do this in reality – in practical terms? I’ve already started talking to a number of firms about this and have some innovative ideas on how to help senior Compliance leaders focus on risk, and leave behind tired, ineffective practices of yesteryear.

It’s an exciting new chapter in my career that I can’t wait to get started!
